We started our light display in 2011 with a few light strands outlining the house. Each year since then, we've been adding more features. New this year, we've increased the size of our main lighted tree from 24 feet to just over 30 feet and added an additional 10,000 lights, bringing our total lights to over 40,000. We also have 17 new Christmas trees in the display this year.
It takes approximately three weeks with two full-time workers and 3 part-time helpers to place over 800 strands of light and placement and decoration of the trees.
Because of the amount of power used, the Los Angeles Dept. of Water and Power has changed our electric service from 200 amp to 400 amp commercial service. Our yard has been re-wired (electrically speaking) to accommodate all of the power needed to the many areas of the display.
Over the past few years, people in the neighborhood have enjoyed the display so much that they've said that we should let more people know about it, thus the reason for this web site.
As you may (or may not) be aware, the cost of keeping a display of this size going if considerable. The cost of the physical lights, labor and electricity go into the thousands of dollars. In addition to putting it up, we also have to pay to have it taken down and "stored" (in commercial storage) until next year.
If you have enjoyed the display and are able to make a small contribution (even $1.00), it will help defray the costs that we've incurred in trying to keep this display going for everyone to enjoy - especially the children. Thanks for whatever you can do.
Please also register on our "Contact Us" page so that we can know how many people are visiting the display (as well as this site). We would like to keep you informed of future events (tree lightings, caroling, sleigh rides for the kids and other holiday events). We really wish to make the holidays in Shadow Hills festive.
